Implementing Information Technology In Your Practice
Join us for an overview of the ten-hour CME course on the implementation of health information technology (HIT). The overview will provide attendees with a lively, thorough review of the breadth of Medical Informatics, with a special emphasis on the needs of outpatient clinical practice.
Knowledge Management & Decision Support
This session will discuss the many methods that can be employed to bring information to the point of care. Attendees will learn the differences between knowledge management and clinical decision support, and how these kinds of resources can be integrated in ambulatory settings.
Successful Health Information Technology Implementations: 10 Easy Steps
Implementations of HIT represent one of the greatest risks that practices encounter. Avoid stumbling blocks by setting expectations, preparing for the unavoidable changes in workflow, building understanding and a sense of ownership from all end-users, and developing processes that support long-term iterations of HIT implementations.
Communication, Patient Education & the Internet
The Internet age allows patients to easily access information about their medical problems. This fast-paced overview will cover some of the best free resources on the Internet and will demonstrate easy, safe methods of using electronic communications in your practice to help your patients.
Clinical IT Leadership
Understand the various clinical IT leadership roles, with a special emphasis on small to medium practice settings, and walk away with examples of best practices. Attendees with experience in such roles are encouraged to attend and participate in the discussion and Q&A session.
Performance Measures & Pay-for-Performance
This session will provide an outline of the controversies surrounding P4P programs. Data requirements for many P4P programs influence the configuration of an EMR installation. A thorough understanding of these measures and how they should be reported is a core learning requirement of any clinician involved in HIT implementation.
Information Technology Implementation for Physicians
Our IT colleagues have a language of their own, and as we venture into their domain, it’s important for us to understand some of their culture. This session will review some common IT approaches to budgeting, planning, software development and implementation and will describe common sources of tension and how to work through such episodes.
Disease Management & Quality of Care
This session will review the core components of the Chronic Care Model, which summarizes the basic elements for improving care in health systems at the community, organization, practice and patient levels. It will also delve into how IT is an essential part of building a more proactive method of care delivery.
Patient Safety & E-Prescribing
A variety of initiatives to reduce medical errors and improve safety have been implemented during the last few years, and e-prescribing has been lauded as an important part of many such programs. This session will review several patient safety initiatives and programs and an in-depth look at options for the implementation of e-prescribing.
RHIOs & Community Data Sharing
Regional Health Information Organizations (RHIOs) are regional collaborations that facilitate the development, implementation and application of secure health information exchange across care settings. An overview of several models of RHIOs and their implications on both small and large physician practices will be discussed. Learn how physician practices can become involved in local or regional initiatives to help define the structure, governance and services that a RHIO provides.
