Industry Veteran and Well-Known Physician, Jacob Reider, M.D., to Assist Research and Development
RALEIGH, N.C. – May 17, 2007 – Misys Healthcare Systems, a market leader in healthcare IT, today announced the appointment of Jacob Reider, M.D. to the position of medical director for research and development. As a practicing physician, Dr. Reider offers a physician’s perspective to guide the research and development team in creating products that perform the way a physician expects them to perform. This appointment aligns with the company’s new strategic vision and its focus on the ambulatory market and connected healthcare communities as defined by Chief Executive Mike Lawrie. With physicians at the center of those communities, Misys is committed to offering physicians effective, seamless data integration.
Dr. Reider, a practicing family physician from Slingerlands, N.Y., provides a full spectrum of care – from treating newborns to elderly patients, as well as obstetrics and outpatient gynecology. A 15-year veteran of healthcare IT, Dr. Reider has developed a vast knowledge of information systems. He brings a user-centric design approach to product research and development, a skill-set that is vital as Misys targets physicians with user-friendly tools.
“Appointing Dr. Reider as Misys’ medical director sends a clear message to our clients, the industry and our employees that we are committed to building not only our expertise, but also solutions that add value for physicians,” said Vern Davenport, executive vice president, Misys Healthcare Systems. “Misys’ research and development team will leverage Dr. Reider’s skills and practice experience to support our goal of becoming a dominant provider of physician-focused Community EHR solutions.”
During the past year, Dr. Reider has worked informally with Misys as a consultant and also leads the Clinical Insight Group, comprised of external industry experts and clinician thought leaders. As a Misys employee, he will influence the way Misys products are developed with the objective to improve usability and interoperability.
“Within my practice, I have seen how the use of EHR technology can be vital to improving patient care and workflow. If physicians across all care settings haven’t adopted this technology yet, they should,” said Dr. Reider. “I am excited to take a more active role at Misys since they understand that the key to physician EHR adoption is providing technology that helps to improve outcomes. The company is defining the future of healthcare IT, and I’m eager to do my part.”
As an Associate Editor for Physician’s First Watch, a daily medical news update from the New England Journal of Medicine, Dr. Reider informs physicians of the latest trends in healthcare IT. Additionally, Dr. Reider was an early pioneer of Internet blogs for healthcare professionals, using blogs as an outlet to share information and teach fellow physicians. He currently hosts two popular medical blogs: www.medlogs.com – the oldest medical blog on the Internet – and www.docnotes.net.
